A customer reported that their NLX (v2.2) was not working properly - it was tripping with very low noise levels.

From the photo they supplied, we can see that the instructions were not followed when installing the limiter.
Incorrectly installed NLX (v2.2) Noise Limiter

The contactor unit has been mounted directly adjacent to the indicator unit.

RFI

Apart from the fact that mains contactors can produce some low level continuous vibration, the mains voltage electrical connections are far too close to the low voltage components in the indicator unit so there is probably electrical interference occurring as well.

Hollow mounting Surface

From a video that was also supplied, the limiter appears to be set at a very low level. There are many short, relatively high level, noises in everyday life which will show on the indicator LEDs. The NLX (v2.2) adjustable cut off time delay prevents these from triggering the limiter though.

Banging on a hollow sounding wall that the microphone unit is fixed to, will always trip the unit. The instructions do say that this is not a suitable mounting surface.

Resolution

Both parts of the limiter will need to be repositioned, following the instructions closely. This is especially important in a quiet environment such as a school, when the limiter is set to a low sound level.
